About Us

Experience Bike Riding Like Never Before

We created Tandem Journeys through our love of tandem biking and we wanted others to experience the joy we found.  We also live in a beautiful area of Lincolnshire that's not far from the Lincolnshire Wolds or the Skegness coast meaning we have so many exciting routes for people to explore.  Many of the routes are flat, making it a very pleasant cycle.

At Tandem Journeys we believe in creating magical moments through the joy of tandem biking.  Our passion for unique experiences drives us to provide exceptional service and ensure every ride is filled with adventure and happiness.   Either explore with no set  plan and see where the day takes you or follow one of our tried and tested (by ourselves) routes.  There are so many places to visit its more than just a bike ride.

Terms and Conditions

The serious bit before the fun begins

Please take time to read the Terms and Condition prior to your hire date.

The hirers for the purposes of hiring a Tandem Bike from Tandem Journeys are classed as both persons cycling the bike, and both persons will need to sign this document

When hirers pay the hire fee they agree to be bound by all the terms and conditions as published.

Payment by the hirers constitutes a binding contract between themselves and Tandem Journeys with these terms and conditions.

Bicycles or associated equipment are not guaranteed as booked until paid for in full in advance by bank transfer and confirmed by Tandem Journeys by email.

We reserve the right not to fulfil or accept a booking for any reason and all bookings are subject to availability.

Cancellation by you:

In the event of you needing to cancel your booking you will be entitled to a full refund providing a minimum of 48 hours notice is given prior to the start day of hire. If you cancel within 48 hours of the hire period we are unable to provide you with a refund but we will seek to give you the opportunity to reschedule your booking, subject to availability within a six month period.

Notification of cancellation can be made by phone between the hours of 10am – 4pm, or by email to info@tandemjourneys.co.uk.

Refunds will not be given to customers who are physically unable to cycle safely, or cyclists or who decide not to cycle because they change their mind for any reason on the day.

We can only refund to a UK bank.

Refunds cannot be given for punctures or damage caused to gears as a result of incorrect or negligent use.

Refunds will not be given in the event of inclement weather or for an early return made by the hirer.

Cancellation by us:

If in the unlikely event we need to cancel your booking due to unforeseen circumstances we will notify you as soon as practical and offer you an alternative cycle date, if possible.  If no suitable date is available Tandem Journeys will refund you in full.

We reserve the right to refuse hiring any bicycle to anyone considered to be unsafe for any reason, and would offer a refund minus a £20.00 admin fee.

Hirers Responsibilities:

The hirer has a responsibility to choose a suitable route for the capabilities of the riders within your group.  We offer some suggested routes to get you started but you are free to choose your own.

The hirer has a responsibility to return the bike before 4pm.  Additional costs may be incurred for a late return unless this has been prearranged with ourselves.

If the bike is returned in an excessively dirty state or requires remedial work beyond normal after hire maintenance, we will need to charge an additional days hire to cover the costs.

The hirer will not hold Tandem Journey responsible for any loss, damage to property, injury or death regarding the use of bicycles or associated equipment. You will indemnify us against any claim, interest, demand or expense in respect of such damage.

The hirer confirms that all group members are competent cyclists and recognises that all group members will be riding cycles which they are not familiar with and as such will exercise due care and attention.

Bicycles are available on the understanding that every rider can use gears properly, and at least one rider knows how to repair a puncture and adjust the saddle height.

The hirer is responsible for payment of any damage including third party caused by dangerous cycling, loss of control, negligence or loss of equipment if the cycles are not locked to a fixed object through the frame, and the hirer should seek insurance for such.

The hirer will not cycle on the beach at any time.

The hirer will follow and abide by the highway code.

The hirer accepts responsibility for their personal safety and the security of bicycles and hired equipment at all times using the locks provided.

Tandem Journeys will charge a realistic repair fee for any damage occurring through misuse.

Liability:

Tandem Journeys will not accept liability for loss or injury to persons or property or costs arising from any accidents howsoever caused directly or indirectly, and the hirer should seek to insure themselves for the duration of the hire period.

All bikes and equipment are checked regularly and offered for hire in good faith. Tandem Journeys will not accept liability for mechanical malfunction through misuse, breakdown or punctures.

Tandem Journeys strongly recommend the use of a safety helmet and by signing the disclaimer all group members assume full responsibility for any accidents, injury or death which occur as a result of their decisions during the hire period.

Parking and public conveniences

There is limited parking directly next to our premises and cars parked here are parked at the owners risk and we will not be held responsible for any damage or loss incurred as a result of parking near our premises.  There is alternative parking available if hirers have travelled in more than one vehicle in the market square, Wainfleet.  Again vehicles are parked at owners own risk and no responsibility can be accepted by Tandem Journeys.  Both of these location offer free parking.

There are no public conveniences available on site.

FAQs

Some of the finer points answered

How many Tandems do you have?

We currently have two Tandem bikes available for hire, Annie and Daisy.  Our little flock will be growing soon so please keep an eye on our facebook and Instagram pages for new arrivals for hire.

Do I need to book and pay in advance?

We recommend you book in advance but we will try our best to accommodate you if you wish to book closer to the day.  We currently have two bikes for hire so booking early helps avoid any disappointment.  We do require a £20 reservation fee when you book with the remaining balance due 48 hours before the hire start date.

We do require a £50 security and damage deposit along with proof of your identity as well.   The deposit is refunded once the bikes are returned and we are happy for the deposit to paid in cash if preferred.

How do I pay?

We require payment by bank transfer or an invoice payment link.  We also accept cash.  Unfortunately we are unable to accept cheques at this time.

What ID do I need to provide?

A Passport or UK Driving Licence is required from the main hirer as proof of ID before you set off for your day, along with a current proof of address dated within the last 3 months, a utility bill is acceptable.

Can you deliver the bike?

We can deliver the bike to your home or holiday location if this is within a 5-mile radius of Wainfleet.  Please contact us to discuss your requirements.  There is a £5.00 delivery and £5.00 collection fee for this service.

Do you provide a cycle helmet?

Cycle helmets are included in the cost of hire, although if you have your own you may wish to bring this along and use it instead. All helmets are cleaned after each hire.

How do we ride a Tandem bike?

The 'Captain or Pilot' is the person who is seated at the front of the bike and is usually the taller and heavier of the two riders.  The person at the back of the bike is called the stoker and is usually the smaller and lighter of the two riders.  Before we set you off on your adventure we will show you how to ride the bike.

Is there a height or weight restriction for the bikes?

There is an approximate combined weight limit of 200kgs, including any extras like your picnic.

As a rough guide it is suggested the following are height guides:
- Front Rider (Captain/Pilot) Approx 5' 2" - 6' 5"
- Rear Rider (Stoker) Approx 4' - 6'

If you are either very tall or not so tall please contact us so we can make sure we have the right bike available for you as one of our bikes is more adjustable.

Do you hire bags and other bike equipment?

Yes! Our Tandems will come with a picnic rucksack which can be secured to the bike or ridden with as part of your hire price. Please feel free to bring our own picnic for the bag, or stop at the local shop here in Wainfleet to top up on your favourite goodies for your trip.  There are also two bottle holders on each bike which should hold a standard sports bottle, and a pouch which will hold most mobile phones should you wish to follow a route or use maps on your phone.

What happens if I get a puncture or breakdown?

Unfortunately, punctures do happen from time to time. In the case of this happening, we supply each bike with an innertube, tyre levers and pump so that you can replace the innertube and get back to your ride ASAP.  We do ask that at least one rider knows how to replace an innertube before you set off.  All we ask is that you pack the old innertube in the bag supplied and bring it back to us.

Do you provide locks & lights?

Your hire bike comes with a combination lock to be used every time you park and leave the bike unattended.  The combination will be given to you when you collect the bike. Our bikes are fitted with lights although the bike hire times are during the day time so they shouldn’t be needed, but they are there just in case.

Please note that the Tandem is the hirers responsibility for the duration until returned to us, this is both when in use and when you have locked the bike up for a stop.
If you have any further question which we have not covered please feel free to contact.
